Stephanie Brown/Spoiler Poll

I plan on applying as Stephanie Brown/Spoiler in a RPG soon, and am having trouble settling on a PB. This poll will run until Sunday afternoon, and I'll cross-post it to Livejournal and combine votes, just in case there's a tie.

View Poll: Which PB Works Best For Stephanie Brown/Spoiler?

The Support Stacie Auction Opened Last Night

The Support Stacie September Auction opened last night. And here is more on what the auction is about, for anyone who may have missed a post about it.

I am up for auction, and beneath the cut is what I’m offering in the Doctor Who fandom--along with the details I left out, but added over at dwsupportstacie, over on LJ:

Offer: One (1) 2500 word min. story in Doctor Who/Torchwood.
Restrictions: No smut of any kind—meaning it will always be a tasteful fade to black. For who I can write Doctor-wise: I’m fine with the Eighth, Ninth or Tenth Doctor. I’m good at Team TARDIS type of fanfic, like Jack, Martha, the Doctor as friends, or Donna, Martha, and the Doctor in the TARDIS, or something of that nature. Post-Journeys End is fine, and so is something post-Children of Earth.

Additional Details: I prefer to write comedy, stories that deal with the friendships between characters, and stories that deal with the aftermath of something in the series, as opposed to smut (as mentioned in restrictions) or stories filled with torture. With the Doctor Who offer, this encompasses the Torchwood fandom. Just let me know the plot/general idea you wish for whatever fandom you bid on, and I’ll get right on it. Take a look at the fanfics in my LJ to see what you would likely be in for. One of the links at the forum contains links to my Doctor Who stories over at Teaspoon.

I didn't mention what pairings I'm willing to write at the thread link, so I'll mention it here. I'm okay with: Doctor/Donna, Jack/Martha, Jack/Donna, Doctor/Jack, Martha/Doctor. I'm willing to write something with the clone Doctor.

With Doctor/Donna, I'm fine with either friendship or romance. I love the two together either way. If you want a fanfic focusing on one character, then I'm fine with Donna, Martha, the clone Doctor, the Tenth Doctor, Wilf, or Jack Harkness.

I mentioned I can write Team TARDIS, but entirely forgot to mention that I am also willing to write OT3 if asked--even if it tends to go more towards a OT3 of friendship in most cases. I've been in the OT3 ficathon before, and am willing to give a go of Rose, Jack, and the Ninth Doctor, or Donna, Martha, and the Tenth Doctor, or Jack, Martha, and the Tenth Doctor.

My auction thread is located here. I will be in the board’s chat room for the auction tomorrow, from 5:00 PM, to 5:30 PM, where I can gladly answer any questions, or just chat about Doctor Who if you like--or if you’re not sure of a character or pairing I might write for and want clarification, ask away during that time. I don’t have a mod for that block of time, as I couldn’t think of anyone.

Anyone looking for banners like the one I posted can go here. If you would like to see what I’ve written in the past, you can go through the “fanfic I’ve written” tag here.

Stephanie Brown/Spoiler PB Poll

I’m cross-posting this poll between here and LJ. This is to decide who works for a PB for Steph, before I try to apply for her over at cretaceous.

View Poll: Who Works Best As A PB For Stephanie Brown/Spoiler?

Sidenote: There was a Lifetime movie on yesterday (Augusta, Gone, I believe was the name) that included Mika Boorem in it. I actually made myself watch, so I could see if I thought she would work for Spoiler. I decided that she didn’t really. Oh, and I almost included Alona Tal in the poll after all, until I checked--and she’s taken, as she’s the PB for Black Canary over there. If anyone’s thinking of Kristen Bell, though, she’s on the taken list, too.

If you vote Other, just put who you think might work better in the comments. With Saoirse Ronan, check out the gallery for The Lovely Bones over here, since she looks a bit older than a few of the icons.

Stephanie Brown/Spoiler

I’m considering trying for Spoiler (Stephanie Brown) over at a DC/Marvel crossover RPG, set in a time period with dinosaurs—not entirely sure as of yet. However, I can’t think of a PB for her that would work. I considered a blonde Caroline Dhavernas, but I don’t know. Anyone on my friends list have any suggestions? Also asked over at Hollow Art (here) but no suggestions as of yet.

Computer Help

Okay, so I still can’t change the screen resolution for some odd reason. When I try, it automatically goes back to 800 X 600, rather than anything higher. All I want to do is go into one of the programs I have (either Ulead or Windows Movie Maker, and they require the resolution changed) and fix a tiny problem with the video quality of a movie I’ve downloaded and want to watch--all I want to do is lighten it a tiny bit. I know it’s possible to do it from this post at Yahoo Answers. I know how the lightness should look, because of this trailer for the movie. Instead of looking like that, it’s a bit darker. The wedding in the trailer looks like it’s at sunset in the movie I have, for example, instead of noon.

At this point, I’m willing to e-mail it to someone, let them do that tiny fix it for me, and have it e-mailed back, if it’s possible. Any volunteers to help me? It seems like the only way to get this to work, since the resolution won’t change no matter what I do.

Oh, and while I was on Youtube looking up the trailer for that Cannon Movie Tales thing, I found this one for Rumpelstiltskin. Is that Brad Pitt on horseback? He isn’t listed on IMDB for it, but it does look just like him. The guy that looks like him is at the 22 second mark.

Finish-A-Thon Title Suggestions

I’m trying to think of possible titles for the Finish-A-Thon fanfic I’m about to start on--any suggestions would be great. Keep in mind that it’s going to involve the Doctor getting turned into a marionette, being held captive, and eventually saved by Donna, Martha, and Jack. And somehow, some sort of pie stops this type of alien. I picture the type of pie interacts with the body chemistry of the alien, stopping them dead in their tracks.

The only titles I’ve been able to come up with so far that might possibly work are: Marionettes And Baguettes (which doesn’t work, since it’s pies--unless I change it to aliens defeated by being thwapped with those things, which isn’t what people voted for; anyone want me to throw in baguettes as well as pie?), The Marionettes Are Coming For You, and The Secret of the Pie.

For reference, if anyone isn’t sure or doesn’t want to dig through the posts, this is the prompt idea:

“Donna must use pie to save the Doctor from a tiny alien race that have used a shrink ray on him and imprisoned him in their ship with other assorted animals and sentient beings. As you might expect from the summary, it would be a humor-filled story.”

And this is the expansion of it that I mentioned in another comment at multific:

“Part of the shrinking of the Doctor apparently now entails him getting turned into a small marionette, similar in nature to Pinocchio.

I can just picture Jack, Martha, and Donna mocking the Doctor while breaking him out of his prison, before settling in to help him battle the aliens with the aforementioned pie.”

After I eventually finish on the Finish-A-Thon fanfic, I’ll start another poll with the other options from the Finish-A-Thon poll—because at some point, I do want to end up writing all of those prompts I had listed.

In other news, for those interested I just found out the Sci-Fi Channel will be having a Highlander marathon on Thursday--from 7 AM to 11 PM CST, I believe. It was mentioned over at Io9, and you can see the schedule here. It’s in EST.

PB Help?

I’m looking for PB suggestions for Rahne Sinclair and Illyana Rasputin, since I’m considering playing them somewhere again. The descriptions of what I’m looking for with each are over here, if anyone happens to have any suggestions. I was watching an episode of Merlin yesterday, and briefly considered Holly Grainger as Rahne, but I wasn’t entirely sure if she was right for the character.

Fannish Items Of Interest

Here’s great casting news that will make fans of his character on Heroes--or at least of a certain actor--very happy. Christopher Eccleston will be returning to Heroes as Claude in an episode called The Invisible Thread. According to IMDB, it airs April 27th.

Alan Tudyk joins the cast of V.

Looks like Donna making a pie is currently in first place in the prompt poll, with Martha as an Immortal in a close second--and Jack in a monastery in a close third. People have until the weekend to vote if they haven’t already.

There might be a Riverworld series in the works for The Sci-Fi Channel (once they change their name). Didn’t they already do a tv movie a few years back, starring the late Kevin Smith? (The one from Hercules and Xena, not the comic writer) And, randomly, the person doing the Io9 article posted a screencap of Whoopi Goldberg as The Cheshire Cat. Which, judging by the comments, triggered memories of this version of Alice in Wonderland.

26 Great TV Shows That Got A Quick Hook. A lot of these I have either never heard of before, or have heard of, but never seen. A good example of the latter would be My So-Called Life and Wonderfalls. Good news is that Firefly gets a mention.

Back To The Future Question

Good news—turns out the local library has a copy of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, which includes The Copper Beeches. So I’ll get to see how Natasha Richardson did there.

In Dancing With The Stars news, Steve Wozniak may be off the show, after pulling a hamstring—and Tom Bergeron says they need someone from NCIS to check out the place, since it’s getting weird. I’ve done the hamstring thing before—not fun.

Oh, and last night I was watching Back to the Future on Encore yet again, and noticed something. When Marty finishes his guitar solo at the Enchantment Under The Sea dance, and everyone looks on in disapproval? In the front of that crowd, there’s a woman that looks amazingly like a young Heather Locklear. By that point in time (1985) she was famous for TJ Hooker and Dynasty, so it couldn’t be her, could it? It's definitely not listed on her IMDB page. It’s probably just someone that looks like her.

In my quest for that clip, I stumbled across a Spin City promo with the entire cast of that show in the Delorean. You can watch it here. Oh, and found a clip of the scene, where it’s not too dark to see everything—since it’s all in Spanish, just leave it on mute. The girl that looks like Locklear (it’s easier to see her in television airings) is there at 2:52-2:53.

And checking the multific poll, as of this morning looks like it’s a tie between Martha as an Immortal, and Donna with a pie. And a tie for second place, to my amusement. My friends list can only vote for one option, according to the rules. If you are in the Finish-A-Thon, you can vote for two prompts. Go here to vote.

Fannish Items of Interest

Voting is still going on for the Finish-A-Thon. If you want to see me write the Martha as an Immortal fanfic, or the one where Methos and Duncan go to Dracula’s castle, or one of another four prompts that there are--like the one where Donna, Jack, and Martha drink and share stories of what they’ve done with and without the Doctor’s help--please vote if you’re on my friends list. Here is the poll, located at multific.

Looks like Transmetropolitan v1 won the poll over at noscans_daily. I voted for Fables volume 1, since I recently found volume 2 at BooksaMillion--didn’t want to read it until I found the first volume. If I were able to vote for more than one item on that poll, I would have also picked Justice League International and Kraven’s Last Hunt.

David Tennant arrives via TARDIS on Comic Relief night. This clip and one where he’s with someone from the British version of Big Brother and answering questions are all I’ve seen of him there, so far.

Blognewsarama linked to the Marvel skit in the 1987 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, for those that haven’t seen it before. Starring Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Enchantress, The Hulk, Captain America, Luke Cage, Emma Frost, Green Goblin, and Rambo. No, I’m not joking on the last bit. It must be seen to be believed--I think I also spotted Iron Man running around. They’re all fighting to the theme of Back to the Future.

Fannish Items of Interest

If you had me under your command and could make me write anything , <strike>regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom </strike>for Doctor Who/Torchwood, no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write?

If anyone could come up with a Doctor and Donna prompt, or something involving Jack or Martha, that would be great.

The 10 Worst Comic Book Vacation Destinations.

10 Greatest Science Fiction Show Endings Ever. A couple of the shows I've never seen before, but #1 is Life on Mars. Doctor Who is on the list for Survival. And all I can think of is Sylvester McCoy screaming "If we fight like animals, we DIE LIKE ANIMMAAAALLLLSSSS!"

The Sci-Fi Channel Gets A New Name

Posting in between people burning limbs (still cleaning up post-ice storm)--the wind finally took a turn where it isn’t blowing over here. They're apparently doing it so the people that keep coming around to get rid of branches and assorted debris won't have as much to do.

The Sci-Fi Channel is changing their name. They will call themselves...The Syfy Channel. Honestly? They haven’t been that great for a few years now, what with the wrestling. And, apparently, a video game competition that they air once a week. Years ago, they had marathons of actual science fiction and it was good. I loved when they had Dark Shadows marathons. And without them showing old horror movies, I never would have seen The World of Dracula...which I’m still hopelessly trying to find again. There’s also a great discussion about the Sci-Fi Channel’s past and how bad it is now over here in settiai’s journal.

10 Annoying Habits of a Geeky Spouse. Personally, I don’t find any of this annoying.

In other news, I’ve gone back through old entries in this journal, to find any memes that could give me another idea for a fanfic, so that I can then join the Finish-A-Thon. As of when I quit for the evening yesterday, I had made it back to December of 2007. I managed to dig up a meme (and also saw that March 29th is Love Your Beta Day, if anyone wants to continue that) that I’ll spread again:

If you had me under your command and could make me write anything , <strike>regardless of whether or not I know the fandom or if anybody even writes fic in that fandom </strike>for Doctor Who/Torchwood, no matter how crack-addled it might be, what would you love to see me write?

ETA: Found another link about the Sci-Fi Channel’s name change, for those that are interested. They want to move away from science fiction and geeks, according to what the article says. They also say that geeks are people that live in their parents' basements in the interview...

Prompt Poll

Just in case someone doesn’t feel like commenting with a prompt for the Finish-A-Thon in the previous post, I’ve decided to make a poll (and nobody is surprised). So any prompts you have for me can go there. You can't edit a poll into another post, so I had to make a new one.

View Poll: Any ideas for a prompt that could work?

And since it's around 6:20 PM here, and the PB poll is closed--after combining the votes in the LJ and IJ PB polls, the results are: Amy Adams: 7 votes; Anna Friel: 4 votes; Amber Benson: 3 votes; Morena Baccarin: 2 votes; Emily Van Camp: 2 votes. Thanks to everyone who voted.

Prompt Requests

I just finished watching the first episode of The Middleman, and all I have to say is it’s very, very strange. I’m not entirely sure if I like it yet, so I’ll watch a couple more episodes before I decide. My problem might have been with the talking apes, since I don’t care for that sort of thing. (Thankfully, there was a comment about Gorilla Grodd somewhere in the episode) I’ll probably skip ahead to the Ghostbusters type episode next.

In other news, I do really want to sign up for the Finish-A-Thon, so I’ll throw my two unfinished fanfics (Martha Jones as an Immortal from Highlander; and the other was Duncan and Methos meet Vlad the Impaler, who is Immortal) into the ring. But I need a third idea that I’m willing to start writing. So to that end, in the comments, please just throw a bunch of plot bunnies/ideas--in fandoms you know that I enjoy, like Doctor Who--my way (the crackier the better).

The Finish-A-Thon--Possibly Signing Up

50 Reasons No One Wants To Publish Your First Book

Finally found the mention of the injury Gilles had. It was It was a separated shoulder, but he won’t be dropping out. However, Cheryl Burke wants him to lose one article of clothing per dance. That article may have been written prior to his injury.

The Finish-A-Thon is taking sign-ups now. Information on where to sign up can be found here. There’s not a minimum length requirement, so I’m trying to see if I have more than two fanfics on my to-do-list that could be finished with this. Other than the Martha as an Immortal fanfic. And that Highlander fanfic with Methos and Duncan at Bran Castle. I’m trying to remember if there are any other non-ficathon Doctor Who stories that I need to write.

I will be closing the PB poll at 5 PM CST.

Fannish Items Of Interest, And More DWTS Injuries

Dancing With The Stars—as I’ve said before on LJ, either they've been cursed, or everyone is being worked to death. At the rate of the injuries this season, the winner will probably be declared by the last one still able to stand up.

Steve Wozniak fractured his leg during practice. During The Insider, I think they said something happened to Gilles’ shoulder, too, but I haven’t been able to find confirmation of that one.

ETA: Okay, and someone else was injured. Something about a pinched and pulled sciatic nerve in Steve-O’s back.

Here’s yet another rumor for someone to be the Doctor’s new companion once he regenerates—someone from Skins by the name of Hannah Murray. I’m not cutting this as it’s merely a rumor and not a spoiler, and tons of other names have been thrown around lately. Who would my friends list pick? In the comments at Io9, someone said they wanted to see Jemima Rooper—I would love to see either her, or Carey Mulligan returning as Sally Sparrow.

Last I looked there was a small tie somewhere in the poll—anyone wanting to vote can do so here. The poll will be closing sometime tomorrow. Probably around noon.

David Boreanaz answers some questions from Popwatch readers.

Here is a poll for the Briar Rose PB--pick as many as you wish, if you think more than one sounds good. As stated below, the poll goes until Saturday morning. The character’s hair/appearance isn’t currently set in stone, so you’re getting a variety of PB choices. Just in case of a tie, I’ll be cross-posting this both here and to Livejournal, and adding the votes together.

View Poll: Who works best as a Briar Rose PB?

Fannish Items of Interest

I’m still asking for any Briar Rose PB suggestions over in this poll, since I’ll be applying for the character probably at the end of the week, once I’ve posted a lot of the old GJ logs either to Inksome or IJ. I’ve also edited what I’m looking for in the character, and the description can be found over here, and the scenario she’s in (which I mentioned in a poll a while back) is here. Considered Amber Benson for a while, but I wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions.

Nathan Fillion gave an interesting interview with The AV Club.

Death at a Funeral—the movie with Alan Tudyk that I finally saw for the first time last week—is being remade. Strangely, the remake will star Ron Glass.

Over on Dancing With The Stars, it seems as though they’ll be replacing Nancy O’Dell with someone from the latest season of The Bachelor. Melissa Rycroft.
Briar Rose PB Poll

Going by this description I’ve written up of the character, who do you think work best for a Briar Rose PB? So far, Amber Benson’s the only idea I’ve got, but I just wanted to see if anyone else out there on my friends list could think of a suitable PB.

View Poll: Who Works As A PB For Briar Rose?

I'll be applying as Briar Rose (after combining the votes from the IJ and LJ polls, she won the poll with Belle in second place) sometime in the next few days.
